NOLAN'S STORY

In 2022, our son Nolan was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML). He underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Unfortunately, the first transplant failed, necessitating a second with an additional boost of donor cells. While the second transplant was initially successful, the disease returned six months into remission, just after we celebrated the New Year in 2024.

As a family, we were devastated and felt hopeless. There were no full matches available for a third transplant, and we could only find half-matches within our family. Nolan’s father was the first successful donor, followed by his mother for the third transplant. Faced with a mere 20% chance of survival for Nolan due to the toxicity of the procedure, we had to make a heart-wrenching decision: to fight for his life or cherish the time we had left.

Despite the overwhelming mental, physical, and financial challenges, we chose to fight, believing in Nolan’s strength. He successfully underwent the third transplant, and we continue to navigate the journey toward recovery.

Throughout this ordeal, the We Fund Care Team has been a beacon of support. Established in 2016 in memory of Ryan Saturno, the foundation has been dedicated to alleviating the financial and emotional strain on families battling cancer. They provided financial assistance for parking, meals, and medications not covered during our fight. We are profoundly grateful for their unwavering support and the impact they have on our family and many others. We wish we had known about them sooner and hope to raise awareness of this incredible foundation.

Thank you, We Fund Care Team, for being there when we needed it most
